Attending the presentation were the charity founders Neil and Angela Dickson. The funds were raised from a spa fundraiser event held at the end of last year at the hotel.
Each year, Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire host a special ball for its spa members, with live entertainment, dinner and a luxury charity auction. This year the theme of the ball was the forest, seeing the hotel’s recently refurbished event spaces transform into a wildlife wonderland.
In 2021 the Dicksons decided to set up The Samantha Dickson Fund within The Brain Tumour Charity, to continue Samantha’s legacy and to raise money specifically for research into high grade gliomas. Although over the years The Charity’s research has made major progress on understanding the biological nature of this tumour group, this has yet to be translated into new clinical treatments and the purpose of the Fund is to kick-start and continue this process.
“The money has been allocated to a new three-year project at Sheffield University. Neuro-surgeon Dr Ola Rominyi is investigating why in a large number of high grade tumours despite successful full resection the tumour returns so quickly.
“He is studying the myriad of cells left behind for reasons they soon become malignant.
“The Charity was founded just over the hill from the Four Seasons in Dogmersfield so their support means so much to Angela and I.”
