Face-to-Face Fundraising

Thanks to people like you we’re able to fund world-leading research into brain tumours as well as support every single person and their families living with a diagnosis.

This method of fundraising is one of the most effective ways to recruit new supporters to ensure that we move further, faster towards a cure against brain tumours.

What is face-to-face fundraising

Our professional face-to-face fundraisers will either go from door to door or be located at private sites across the UK, such as outside shopping centres and train stations, and will be asking people if they have time to stop and talk about The Brain Tumour Charity.

Our fundraisers will share information about the crucial research we are currently funding and ask people if they would like to support the Charity by making a regular donation or by signing up to play our Win Big Weekly Lottery.

Our fundraisers will be wearing The Brain Tumour Charity t-shirts or jackets with an ID badge which will make them clearly identifiable as fundraising for The Charity.

Who we work with and why

As we’re unable to locate ourselves at various sites we have to employ a professional face-to-face fundraising agency to do this on our behalf. Please rest assured that we went through a thorough process to find the right partner. We are currently working with our partner, SMILE Fundraising, and their fundraisers will make it clear they are fundraising on behalf of The Brain Tumour Charity.

Smile Fundraising employs passionate and professional fundraisers who are committed to supporting charities and all of the money raised goes to The Brain Tumour Charity.

We feel it’s important to work in partnership with our agencies so they can really get to know our supporters and speak to you in the right way.

Why we use face-to-face fundraising

Face-to-face fundraising is an important way for The Brain Tumour Charity to secure long-term, regular donations from supporters, in the form of setting-up a regular gift or by playing the Win Big Weekly Lottery.

It also provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the work we do and how The Brain Tumour Charity is set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change.

Where will our fundraisers be working?

Each week our fundraisers will be working in different locations across the UK. We will provide an up-to-date list of locations each week so you can identify our fundraisers and know they are fundraising on behalf of The Brain Tumour Charity.

Will our fundraisers ever ask for cash?

No. Our fundraisers are not allowed to take cash from you – they’re only permitted to ask for regular donations through a direct debit or sign-up to the Win Big Weekly Lottery. They also can’t take one-off donations.

How do you keep my details safe?

The protection of your data is of the highest importance to both The Brain Tumour Charity and our agency. We only use secure and encrypted methods of transfer and everything is protected by legally binding contracts and data protocol agreements.

Please view our privacy policy for more information.

How much do you pay face-to-face fundraising agencies?

We selected a few agencies to test against each other to find the right fit for The Brain Tumour Charity. We chose our partner Smile Fundraising because they offer the best value for money, high quality fundraising and are focused on providing an inspiring experience for our supporters.

The costs we pay our agency will always be disclosed to you before you sign-up for a regular gift or play the Lottery. If these costs are not mentioned to you please contact our Supporter Care team to let us know at [email protected] or by calling 01252 237792. We are open and honest about all our fundraising.

How do you train face-to-face fundraisers?

Every fundraiser that is fundraising on behalf of The Brain Tumour Charity will be briefed and trained by a Charity employee. Our agency also offers on-going training and support and we hold regular debriefs with fundraisers too.

Who regulates face-to-face fundraising?

The Fundraising Regulator is the independent regulator of charitable fundraising set up in the wake of a cross party review in 2015.

All face-to-face fundraising is regulated by the Fundraising Regulator and its corresponding handbooks.

The Fundraising Regulator is responsible for ensuring organisations are following the Code of Fundraising Practice, and works with charities, professional fundraising organisations and local authorities to minimise complaints and ensure high standards of fundraising are adhered to.
