Are you thinking about taking on your own Game 34 fundraiser, where you’ll be gaming and streaming for charity? Before you pick up the controller and put your gaming skills to the test for a great cause, check out these top tips from one of our very own Young Ambassadors, Alice.
Alice’s story
In 2012, Alice’s grandfather died from a grade 4 glioblastoma. Only 12 years old at the time, Alice felt like she didn’t have anyone to talk to or to help her cope with such a profound loss.
“I was sort of left in my own bubble during this whole process. It wasn’t until I found The Brain Tumour Charity that I was able to express my grief and meet loads of amazing people that could help me along the way.”
With her older sister by her side, Alice became a Young Ambassador for The Charity in 2021 where she’s helped to change the future for those affected by brain tumours. Passionate about raising awareness and making sure people have the support they need, Alice has gotten involved with many initiatives across The Charity – from flexing her social media skills and campaigning for change to holding gaming fundraisers.
Alice’s top tips for gaming and streaming for charity
I decided to hold a gaming fundraiser back in 2021 because gaming is something that I thoroughly enjoy. I thought, why not raise money out of something that I love doing already?
So, in 2011, I held an 11-hour gaming fundraiser. It was really fun, really great… but I do have some tips for anyone looking to do the same:
- Pick a comfortable space to game
- Get loads of snacks for energy
- Make sure you’ve got support around you, to keep you going!
I recommend anyone that’s into Xbox, PlayStation, computer games – anything like that – to give it a go. If you’re good at gaming and you’re comfortable with it, then try fundraising as well.
