We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in The Big Bake 2023.
Whether you held a Big Bake yourself or swapped a donation for a doughnut, we really appreciate your support.
There were a whopping 383 delicious Big Bakes held throughout September. We wanted to share some of the stories that’ve been shared with us.
The Everest Centre’s Big Bake
Not content with accelerating a cure through cutting-edge research, the team at The Everest Centre held a Big Bake. There were mountains of treats available to help raise funds for The Charity – from brainy cupcakes to tasty chocolate cake.
Thank you to everyone at The Everest Centre for everything you do. Together, we’re helping children diagnosed with a brain tumour live a longer, better life. We hope the sweet treats provided the energy you needed to make the next big research breakthrough.
Bisley Montessori’s Big Bake
A huge thank you to Bisley Montessori Nursery School for hosting a Big Bake. The children raised an incredible £42 and learnt why it’s important to support others.
“We wanted to take part in The Big Bake to teach the children about how important it is to support charities and those in need. We chose to support The Brain Tumour Charity specifically because a few of our staff members here have been impacted directly by losing a loved one to a brain tumour.”
Mars Wrigley’s Big Bake
After losing her eight-year-old son, Raj, to a high grade glioma, Suki set up The Raj Rana fund. She now raises money and spreads awareness of brain tumours in Raj’s memory.
Suki, who is also a Trustee of The Brain Tumour Charity took The Big Bake to Mars Wrigley HQ. As well as engaging with staff about the vital work we do together, Suki’s Big Bake raised over £550 at the delicious event.
“It was amazing to have The Brain Tumour Charity at Mars Wrigley HQ. Our associates were really interested to hear about some of the great work that the charity is doing.”
Lauren’s Big Bake
Our Young Ambassador Lauren baked up a storm with everything from brookies and lemon drizzle cake to shortbread and muffins.
She raised hundreds of pounds to help us move further, faster towards a world where everybody affected by a brain tumour lives a longer, better life.
Lauren put together a video of her Big Bake preparations and the event itself.
Suzanne’s Big Bake
Suzanne’s sister Katie was only 34 when she passed away following a brain tumour diagnosis. After initially being diagnosed, Katie underwent surgery to remove the tumour in February 2022 but unfortunately she never came home.
Experiencing first-hand the effect the tumour had on her sister, Suzanne decided to hold a Big Bake to raise awareness and much needed funds to improve the lives of others affected by this disease. Raising a staggering £1,500 she has done a fantastic job, thank you Suzanne for all you do to accelerate a cure!
‘The Big Bake was easy and fun to organise, it got people together and gave me an opportunity to inform others the importance of The Charity. What better way to do it than with coffee and tons of cakes! I was over the moon with how much was made and still can’t quite believe it.’ -Suzanne
Pets Corner’s Big Bake and Puppy Morning
Bone appeitit! Pets Corner in Manchester held what might be the most paw-some Big Bake so far at their puppy morning.
The event was filled with furry friends and there were pupcakes available for the pooches.
Wickes’ Big Bakes
From Thursday 7 to Monday 11 September, staff across Wickes’ more than 230 UK stores held Big Bakes to help us build a better future for everyone affected by a brain tumour.
There truly is no “do-it-yourself” when it comes to defeating brain tumours and with the whopping £87,339 the team at Wickes’ raised, we’ll be able to help those diagnosed live longer, better lives
Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit their local Wickes store, the volunteers who spent their weekend meeting the teams all across the UK, and thank you to the Wickes team for your showing your flour power and raising dough!
