John’s Story
Those that knew him will remember the strong, charismatic, cheeky chappy: the archetype of a true man. Fast cars, rallying, motor bikes, speed boats, he even learnt to fly a plane!
He had a fast and furious, work-hard play-hard approach to life, with zero tolerance and yet boundless passion. Life was never dull!
He adored his family, loved his friends and was a passionate, active Freemason.
In March 2012, John was diagnosed with a grade 4 GBM and was quickly invited to join the Gala-5 Trial run by Dr Colin Watts at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.

Within a couple of weeks he had undergone surgery, which was then followed by 2 weeks of intense Radiotherapy.
It was a bumpy journey, with several ups and downs along the way, but as he was surrounded by women (his wife and two daughters) there was no option to give up!
On the morning of Friday 11th January 2013, John passed away after suffering a large seizure in the neurological ward at Addenbrookes.
The John Lucas Fund
The John Lucas Fund has been established to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity.
The Gala-5 Trial was jointly funded by The Brain Tumour Charity and Cancer Research UK, so monies raised by John’s Fund will feed back to the people that offered John his initial treatment, and enable them to continue their research for the benefit of others moving forward.
