Miranda’s story
Miranda Worgan (Randa to many) died at the age of 52, after a 5 month battle with secondary breast cancer which affected her brain.
In 2011, Miranda was diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram. She underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a 12 month course of Herceptin and in June 2012 was given the all-clear. However, she only had three months to celebrate before feeling unwell and being diagnosed in early September with multiple and inoperable secondary brain tumours. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy were both ineffective and despite a courageous fight and indomitable spirit, Miranda died peacefully at home on 15 January 2013.
Miranda always lived her life to the full, with energy, enthusiasm and considerable joie de vivre. She loved looking after people, whether in her personal life or professionally, as her colleagues from IBM can testify. Working at IBM for many years at different locations across the UK, Miranda was well known, respected and loved by her bosses, colleagues and friends alike. She regularly participated in and rallied support for charities, including Race-for-Life and Moonwalk. In fact she would certainly have raised money for The Brain Tumour Charity if she had had any time left to do so after diagnosis.
“Miranda’s husband, family and friends decided to set up the Fund in memory of her, with the aim of raising money to fund brain tumour research. The hope is that this will enable more treatments to be developed for this devastating disease, so that other families in the future will have a happier outcome. We are not only looking for fund raising support but also the right events and opportunities to do so. Please join us in this campaign”
Her many friends and family loved her dearly. She was the one whom many of us turned to in difficult times – she was kind and full of empathy, always recognised when those she loved needed help or a shoulder to cry on. Her favourite pastime was enjoying spa days and pampering, for which she could be relied upon to arrange ‘girlie’ days out.
Miranda created a lovely home with her husband Peter and dog Suzie-Q in Kings Worthy, Hampshire. A wonderful hostess, this was always a fabulous gathering place for friends and family….. we all have many happy memories.
All of her friends and family miss her tremendously but are determined to raise money for research to give others hope.
