The COVID-19 pandemic led to most lab research grinding to a halt with researchers either working from home, being redeployed to frontline healthcare or shifting focus to support the COVID-19 research effort.
Brain tumours don’t stop because of a pandemic and with lockdown now easing and the country attempting to get back to some form of normality, we’re seeing restrictions lift and the opportunity for researchers to return to the labs.
By donating today, your donation will have double the impact – helping us in our efforts to continue to invest in the best research.
Professor Denise Sheer, Professor of Human Genetics at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry said: “We have work in labs which takes months, sometimes years to build up. We had a week to close that all down. We froze our tissue cultures and hope we’ll be able to revive them.
“As soon as we get back in the lab, we’ll be able to validate and understand what we’ve been discovering from our data.”
Now’s the time to take steps forward again, so we can keep investing in new, excellent research and our world-class researchers can get back in the labs to continue making discoveries to improve the lives of everyone affected by a brain tumour and – ultimately – find a cure.
Professor Richard Gilbertson, Chair of our Scientific Advisory Board said: “The Brain Tumour Charity has the confidence that it is funding the best research and indeed will produce a new wave of research carried out by the best people in the world to find a much needed cure for brain tumours. We can’t do this without your help.”
By donating today, you’re helping to guarantee that excellent research thrives after coronavirus.
Together, we can ensure our life-saving research doesn’t miss a beat and that researchers can restart their vital work in the lab without delay.
Donations made between midday on Tuesday 18 August and midday Tuesday 25 August will be doubled.
